Coronavirus deaths in mainland China rise to 811, surpass SARS fatalities
The number of deaths from novel coronavirus in mainland China increased to 811 Sunday, health officials with China’s National Health Commission said.
This exceeds the number of deaths reported from the SARS outbreak in 2003, which killed 774 people, according to the World Health Organization.
Outside of China, two people died from the disease in the last two week, one in the Philippines and one in Hong Kong, bringing total number of global deaths to at least 813.
As of Sunday, more than 37,198 confirmed cases have been reported on mainland China.
However, officials at China's National Health Commission said the number of confirmed cases reported daily in provinces other than Hubei — the region in central China were the virus is believed to have originated — has dropped from 890 on Feb. 3 to 509 on Feb. 8 — a decrease of nearly 43 percent.

“With regard to the use of masks, we once again propose that you use them scientifically,” said Chen Da, deputy director of economic and trade department at the state body.
“Avoid excessive and improper use and save mask resources,” he added.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has also advised “rational use of medical masks” to avoid “unnecessary wastage of precious resources and potential mis-use of masks.”

Passengers, crew of quarantined cruise ship in Hong Kong allowed to leave
Hong Kong health officials said Sunday all passengers and crew members aboard a cruise ship that has been in quarantine in Hong Kong over fears of coronavirus spread aboard can now leave the ship.
"With the help of the cruise company and people on board, the Health Department already completed sample collection yesterday,” said Leung Yiu-hung, chief port health officer from Hong Kong’s health ministry.
"The results show that all people on board are negative to coronavirus tests,” Leung said, adding that all passengers and crew members are allowed to disembark.
Earlier this week, Hong Kong’s health ministry said three people who tested positive were on board the ship during a previous voyage that took place between Jan. 19 and 24.

Four passengers on cruise ship docked in New Jersey test negative
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy confirmed Sunday four passengers from a cruise ship docked in Bayonne tested negative for novel coronavirus.
Royal Caribbean said Saturday that the departure of its Anthem of the Seas cruise from New Jersey will be delayed another two days, until Monday, to allow continued testing of passengers from the ship's prior cruise.
When the ship returned to Bayonne, New Jersey, on Friday, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) boarded the vessel to screen 27 passengers who had recently traveled from mainland China.
Four of those passengers were taken to a hospital for evaluation and tested negative. Another 23 people were to return to China.
“New Jersey currently has no confirmed cases of novel coronavirus and the risk to residents remains low,” Murphy said. — Phil McCausland and Yuliya Talmazan
3 more coronavirus cases confirmed on cruise ship off Japan; total at 64
Three more people aboard a cruise ship quarantined in Japan have tested positive for novel coronavirus, bringing the total from the Diamond Princess to 64, Japan’s health ministry said Saturday.
Two of the three people newly diagnosed are American, a health ministry official said, which brings the total number of Americans diagnosed from the cruise ship to 13. The third person is from China.
Earlier this week, 11 Americans were confirmed to have the virus, along with people from Japan, Canada, Australia and other countries.
About 3,700 passengers and crew were aboard the ship, but those who tested positive were taken to hospitals.
The Diamond Princess was quarantined off Yokohama and testing was conducted on over 270 people after a man who had been on the ship last month was later confirmed to have the virus.

Coronavirus Live Updates: More Than 800 Have Died in China, Surpassing Toll From SARS

For Doug Perez, the most dangerous part of each day in Wuhan is taking his dog for a walk.
Mr. Perez, 28, grew up around San Francisco, but he has taught math and science for the last two years in the Chinese city where the coronavirus emerged. When it began to spread, he chose to stay.

  • Updated Feb. 5, 2020
  • Where has the virus spread? You can track its movement with this map.
  • How is the United States being affected? There have been at least a dozen cases. American citizens and permanent residents who fly to the United States from China are now subject to a two-week quarantine.
  • What if I’m traveling? Several countries, including the United States, have discouraged travel to China, and several airlines have canceled flights. Many travelers have been left in limbo while looking to change or cancel bookings.
  • How do I keep myself and others safe?Washing your hands is the most important thing you can do.

  • So when Chubby, a one-year-old Labrador, needs to go out, Mr. Perez pulls on gloves, straps on a mask and wriggles into the special jacket and pants that the couple sprays down with alcohol after every trip outdoors. Then he slides a yellow jacket over Chubby’s white fur, too.
The State Department has evacuated hundreds of Americans from Hubei Province, where the outbreak began. But some, like Mr. Perez, have decided not to leave. In his case, it is because he does not want to abandon his girlfriend, who is Chinese.
They have spent more than two weeks in his apartment, along with his girlfriend’s brother. They cook, they watch television (three seasons of “The Sopranos” so far), and they clean — a lot. They scrub down surfaces, furiously wash their hands and disinfect their clothes after going out.
“Sometimes I find I’m out of time, which is crazy,” Mr. Perez said. “You’d think I’d have all the time in the world, but with the coronavirus, a lot of time is spent cleaning.”
Other Americans in China have stayed because of loved ones. Gabrielle Autry, 26, from Georgia, lives in the eastern city of Hangzhou. She has looked into flights that would take her to the United States — but her fiancé, a Chinese citizen, would not be able to join her, since the country has barred all foreign nationals from entering if they have recently been in China. If the two were married, it would be a different story.
For now, they are mostly stuck at home, and getting a little bored. But at least they are together, Ms. Autry said.

Today health tips: This is the best way to avoid a sore throat

When you have a sore throat, you may feel pain, scratchiness or irritation on your throat. It usually hurts more when you swallow or talk. Sore throats are common in winter and we care for you. In this health tips series, we will provide some simple tips to avoid a sore throat.
Symptoms of a sore throat can vary depending on the cause. Symptoms may include – fever, headache, white patches or pus on your tonsils, red, swollen tonsils, swollen glands in your neck, skin rash, abdominal pain (usually in children), vomiting (usually in children) and joint or muscle pain.
Common types of sore throat include tonsillitis, strep throat and mononucleosis (mono).
    Causes of a sore throat
A viral infection, such as a cold or the flu, is the most common cause of a sore throat (pharyngitis). While a sore throat caused by a virus resolves on its own, strep throat (a bacterial infection) requires treatment with antibiotics to prevent complications.
A sore throat may result in other complications such as ear and sinus infections, abscess (build-up of pus) near your tonsils.
Smoking, mouth breathing at night while you sleep, pollution and allergies to pets, pollens and molds, muscle strain, gastroesophageal reflux disease, HIV infection, as well as general anesthesia during surgery, can also cause a sore throat.
How to avoid or prevent a sore throat
The best way to prevent sore throats is to avoid the germs (viruses and bacteria) that cause them and practice good hygiene. Follow these tips to avoid catching or spreading the germs that cause sore throats:

  • Wash your hands regularly, especially after using the toilet, before and after eating, and after sneezing or coughing.
  • Carry alcohol-based hand sanitizers to keep hands clean on the go
  • Avoid touching your eyes or mouth
  • Cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing
  • Avoid sharing food, drinking glasses or utensils.
  • Regularly clean telephones, TV remotes and computer keyboards with sanitizing cleanser.
  • Clean phones and remotes in your hotel room before using.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

Today health tips: Be safe in case of a Wuhan coronavirus outbreak near you

Today, health tips will deal with the fast spreading Wuhan coronavirus. The death toll of this virus has crossed 100 in China and the country has more than 4000 infected patients. It has also spread to other countries across the world. Scientists have confirmed human to human transmission. Also, people with no symptoms may be carriers of this virus. This is because it has a 14-days incubation period. Hence, it becomes imperative to know what to do in case of an outbreak in your region. Our health tips today will help you do just that.
In view of the seriousness of the situation and in a bid to arrest the spread of this mutating virus, the World Health Organisation has come out with some basic guidelines. Recognising the need to the hour, we are presenting these guidelines as our health tips of the day.
    Practice hygiene
This the basic precautionary measure that you need to take in case of any viral outbreak. Wash your hands with warm water and soap. Do this as frequently as possible. This will significantly bring down your risk of infection from the Wuhan coronavirus.
    Avoid crowded places
It is imperative that you avoid crowded places. This disease has now mutated to a form that makes humans to human transmission possible. If you have to go to the market for essentials, wear a mask. This will give you some protection. And, change your clothes and wash after returning home as a further precautionary measure.
Avoid people with fever and cough
If you know anybody suffering from fever or any respiratory ailment, avoid meeting him or her till the crisis blows over. Since this is a viral disease, close proximity to an infected person can put you at risk of contracting the disease. Since, you don’t know who may have been exposed to this virus, it is better to just avoid all people suffering from fever and cough.
    Don’t eat uncooked meats
Do you like to eat half cooked meat? Don’t. This can increase your risk of the Wuhan coronavirus significantly. Wash and cook all meat and poultry products and cook till tender. You must also avoid including imported and exotic meats. This disease spreads from animals to humans as it does from humans to humans. So, it is better to be safe than sorry

    Celine Dion Weight Loss

    By On January 15, 2020

Everything Celine Dion Has Said Recently About Her Weight and Haters Who Say She's "Gaunt"

Superstar Celine Dion recently spoke out addressing critics who say she looks too skinny. She’s always been slim, but Dion, 51, gained attention earlier this year after appearing even thinner than usual. One comment on an Instagram post of hers at Paris Fashion Week in January said, “Shockingly too thin,” another described her as “so gaunt,” and many others expressed similar sentiments.
In April, Dion couldn’t ignore the negativity any longer and told People she shed pounds after beginning a ballet regimen. “I do this four times a week,” she said. “People say, ‘She’s a lot thinner’ but I’m working hard. I like to move and [weight loss] comes with it.”
That didn’t quiet the naysayers, though, as some folks continued to talk smack about her all summer, voicing their negativity across social media.
Finally, in September, on opening night of her current Courage World Tour, she fired back. "Is there anything wrong about my body," she told Entertainment Tonight. She went on to say, "I do ballet. I do a lot of stretching and I work out because it helps my mind, body and soul. When you go back, when I was 12 years old, my face was rounder because you have more fat when you're younger…But I've always been very thin."
While we’re usually taught as kids to be accepting of people of all shapes and sizes, that message doesn’t reach everyone, and Dion has been on the receiving end of the public’s negativity many times. "I take the positive. I take what's good for me,” she told ET. “I leave behind what is not good for me.” That’s a reminder we can probably all use at one time or another.
